In the spring of 2022, I took a cold plunge in a lake. It was so invigorating that I told my wife we were going to have to buy a house on a lake. Well that didn't work so I found Joe at DIY cold plunge and used his first version plans to build the attached. At first I just used ice but eventually jumped in a bought first the Ozone unit from Joe and then eventually found a cooler on sale on Amazon. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the entire build process but some initial and final pictures are below. Congrats to Joe for a great site and what looks to be a great career at this point!!!
I like tinkering but even if you don’t this plan is for you. 2 years ago now, my buddy and I both wanted cold plunges but there was no way we were going to pay $10k each for them. At this time that was all that was on the market so it meant we had to make our own. For me that sounded like a fun project but for my friend who isn’t that handy was weary. We grabbed Joe’s plan, order the parts listed and went to work in our garages. It was easy to follow, made sense and literally anyone could use it and be successful.
That was two years ago and we’ve never had issues since. It’s great to see how many others have gotten on Joe’s DIY Cold Plunge train.
The part I love most is because I built it, if anything ever needing fixing I know exactly how to do it. No dealing with companies and warranty etc.. It also really shows you the mark up they are charging folks.
Hooray for Joe! You’re doing the lords work my friend.
I used Joe’s Full Start-to-Finish Plan for a 150 gallon Stock Tank Cold Plunge. I had used the stand alone stock tank for about 3 months with just an insulated cover. Being in Alaska cold water is not a problem. I filled the tank with 44f well water and over the 3 months (March - May) the water only gained ten degrees. In late May after gathering the supplies I drained it and started in on the project. It took me a little over a week of working evenings and a weekend. I plan to run my plunge year round and do not plan to need a chiller. First and foremost - Joe is meticulous with his plans. The measurements, the images, the videos and the shopping lists - all of it First Rate!!!! I made some adaptions based on availability of supplies and my over all plan but I could not find a more complete plan. A few adaptions that I made. I used 1 1/2” rigid foam vs 1” because that is what was available. It fit no problem. I used cedar fence boards on the sides and cedar deck boards for the oval. I was able to tuck all the plumbing inside and insulate the mechanical surround. For winter I plan to install a thermostat and heat tape to keep the plumbing from freezing. Here is to Hot Tub'n and Cold Plung'n!!!! I highly recommend Joe’s Full Start-to-Finish plan!
I didn’t have any woodworking or plumbing experience. The shopping list alone is worth the $100. The best part is now I have the confidence and basic knowledge to do more complex projects. If you care anything about the value of time, get the stock tank plan. Also, Joe was accessible and responded very quickly.
